Having received an art education in Europe, Fernando de Szyszlo's work remained nevertheless Peruvian. His artwork portrays the indigenous heritage of the ancient Incans.
His paintings depict instruments like sacrificial tables, patterns of Andean textiles, and abstract shapes that take from the sculptures and glyphs created by the old empire, and such is the case for "Untitled I". Rich in vibrant hues and textures, De Szyszlo managed to create a body of work with an identity that is purely Latin American and personal, setting his work in a place that very few of his peers and contemporaries managed to achieve.
