Ignacio Espla's main subject for his art was the natural environment of Panama, the country where he lived for about thirty years. Using complementary colors, Espla depicts a bird of paradise against a blue background in "Arco I", where marks in a deep blue appear to echo the shape of the flower. These strokes seem to expand through the image as a ripple effect, adding movement and depth to this simple composition.
