Horses have been an important subject in Felix Angel's overall oeuvre. Rendered with large and voluptuous bodies, they become symbols of power and strength. However, they are often time depicted as being ridden by jockeys, almost unsubstantial in scale, they are barely visible at times, never overpowering the figure of the magnificent animals. And as it is evident in "Variation in Pink", the use of color is subjective, transforming the horses into otherworldly creatures in strident colors.
